Quality of Life Committee for June 15, 2026
This evening’s Quality of Life Committee public meeting will have short presentations of the next five organizations that submitted Occupancy Tax Grant applications. Amy Collins, the Director of Tourism, and Steve Thurston, the Chief of Staff, helped guide this committee to create a more democratic procedure of awarding occupancy tax grants for local organizations. Visit the city’s website to submit an application if you feel your local event adheres to the criteria and rubric.
Today, we will have the following events that submitted applications, with more coming throughout the summer. All event budget, financial, and marketing information will be used solely for application evaluation purposes by the Glens Falls Common Council Quality of Life Committee and are subject to Freedom of Information Law (Public Officers Law, Article 6) (FOIL) requests and may be released to the public. Below is the scoring rubric that mirrors Warren County Occupancy Tax Grant application process. Warren County currently collects a 4% occupancy tax on all overnight tourism accommodations in the county. This tax is levied on customers of hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, campgrounds, short-term rentals, and other properties. The purpose of this tax, as outlined by Occupancy Tax Law, is to promote and increase overnight guest stays and visitations in Warren County and its municipalities such as Glens Falls “through the promotion of tourist activities, conventions, trade shows, special events and other directly related and supporting activities.”
Localities such as Glens Falls are in charge of allocating and tracking the occupancy taxes spent in their jurisdictions. If you would like more information about the guidelines, please reference the first six pages of the Occupancy Tax Grant application.
