Notable Items for Council Meeting on 6/9
June has begun, bringing gorgeous sunshine to our city as the summer season begins. Glens Falls will have a host of activities this month, whether the fourth Lower Adirondack Pride Festival, the 55th LARAC June Arts Festival, Downtown Collaborative’s Fit Festival with its accompanied 5K race, or a Haviland Cove 100-Year Celebration, there will be plenty of opportunities to gather with our community.
While I will be unable to attend the Council meeting tonight due to my father’s funeral, I am delightfully proud of the amazing things that will be on the agenda, especially a presentation from Glens Falls High School students, along with teacher Rachelle Stewart, to create a Glens Falls Youth Cabinet to ensure our young people have a voice in the city. For more information about the proposal, which will begin, if approved, next year, please refer to pages 7-11 of the agenda.
The Common Council Public Meeting begins at 7:30pm tonight. Be sure to join on the third-floor City Courtroom for a whirlwind of discussions, proclamations, and resolutions. I’ll highlight some resolutions below, but if you want more detail, be sure to delve into the wonderfully organized agenda on the city website.
The Council will discuss and potentially approve encroachment permits for dumpsters for Radici’s Restaurant and the LARAC June Festival. For more information for the placement of the dumpsters, please refer to pages 90-96 of the agenda.
The Council will discuss and potentially approve the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program Action Plan for 2026, allocating $458,330, broken into the following categories of eligible activities that benefit low- and moderate-income residents: $173,370 for housing, $68,700 for non-profit public services, $137,260 for neighborhood infrastructure and essential public facilities, and $79,000 for program administration. The Council will discuss and potentially approve two street openings on 13 E. Notre Dame Street and 16 Harlem Street. The projects will install new water and sewer connections between June 10-20th. For more information about the projects and maps, please refer to pages 105-114 of the agenda.
The Council will discuss and potentially approve outdoor dining permits for Downtown City Tavern, Radici’s Restaurant, Spot Coffee, and Downtown Social. I reprinted some of the maps below of their proposed outdoor dining table locations, but please refer to the agenda for more information.
The Council will discuss and potentially set a public hearing for June 23, 2026, at 7:25PM regarding a change to the 10-minute parking zone in front of City Hall to thirty minutes.
The Council will discuss and potentially approve a proclamation to celebrate school crossing guards and designate June 9th as School Crossing Guard Day. From the proclamation, “Crossing guards work in all types of weather and traffic conditions, helping students, families, and community members navigate busy intersections safely. They provide a reassuring presence for children and parents alike, often serving as trusted role models who greet students with kindness, encouragement, and care each school day.”
