Notable Items for the Council Meeting on 4/28

After an excitingly busy and wonderful two weeks in Glens Falls, April is winding down as the flowers and trees begin to bloom across the city and beyond. Some exciting things are planned for this council meeting, including my first resolution involving a new bike rack and a presentation by the City’s Community Development Office highlighting the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) accomplishments and future plans.

The Common Council public meeting will begin this Tuesday evening at 07:25pm. Be sure to join us on the third floor City Courtroom on April 28th for a whirlwind of resolutions, proposals, and discussions. I’ll highlight some resolutions below, but if you want more detail, be sure to delve into the wonderfully organized agenda on the city website.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve three encroachment permits. One from Funky Solutions that extends their permit to June 5th for work inside Ridge Street buildings. Second from Galusha and Sons for work on 178 Maple Street between April 29-30th. Third from Casey Scoville for a roof repair on 167 Glen Street from May 4-22nd. For more information about the planned encroachments, please reference pages 95-106 and pages 112-114.

• The Council will discuss and potentially cancel a contract with Azavar Audit Solutions from June 2022 as there is no work currently in progress with the City of Glens Falls.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve a bike parking pilot program on Glen Street, thanks to a grant from Glens Falls Hospital and the support of Bike Glens Falls. The proposed location will be on the no parking zone near the crosswalk between Spot Coffee and the Charles Wood Theater.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve payment for the demolition cost of 9 Marion Avenue from the fire on December 22, 2025. Total cost is $129,819.25, with funds pending insurance recovery.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve the sale of 12 Fourth Street for $10,000 to Glen Provost.

• The Council will discuss and potentially set a public hearing to institute no parking on Jay Street, amending the Vehicles and Traffic City Code 208-58. For more information about the proposed change, please reference pages 32-49 of the agenda. The public hearing will be set for May 12th at 7:15pm.

• The final public hearing for the Glens Falls Smart Growth Comprehensive Plan will be on May 12th at 7:20pm.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve seventeen mobile food and drink permits:
