Notable Items for Council Meeting on 5/26

The Memorial Day Parade yesterday somberly kicked off the summer season with reflection and gratitude. As May ends and June begins, school kids are excited for summer break to begin, with High School Seniors planning graduation parties and college preparations. Our school district also celebrated the recent passing of the school budget, along with its capital improvement project. Our downtown restaurants are beginning to place tables outside on the sidewalks for customers to dine and enjoy the beautiful weather, as indicated by six outdoor dining permits in this agenda.

The Common Council Public Meeting begins at 7:30pm. Be sure to join us on the third floor City Courtroom tonight for a whirlwind of discussions. I’ll highlight some resolutions below, but if you want more detail, be sure to delve into the wonderfully organized agenda on the city website.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve agreements with Centrica Business Solutions and National Grid for the construction of a solar panel on the Harding Mazotti Arena. For more information about the project, please refer to the presentation on pages 92-119. Financing for this project will be secured by bond financing, thanks to guidance from the City Controller, of $1.56 million, with the potential and realized savings used to fund the expense over time.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve six outdoor dining permits for Bullpen Tavern, Mean Max, Fenimore’s, Fire Mission Restaurant, and Mikado. For more information about table placement and other details, please refer to pages 51-77 of the agenda.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve an extended encroachment permit from Bonacio Development for a section of Elm Street during the construction of 41 and 45 South Street, as well as 36 Elm Street. The timeline, per the permit, will extend until September 30th, 2026. For more information about the permit, please refer to pages 158-163 of the agenda.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve a proclamation to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Queensbury Hotel on May 28, 2026. To read the proclamation, please refer to page 219 of the agenda.

• The Council will discuss and potentially approve a payment of $15,000 to the Warren County Board of Elections for election services in 2026. To learn more about what other cities and towns paid the county for election services, please refer to page 167 of the agenda.
