New Glen Street Bike Rack Unveiled on 5/16
Warren and Washington County – The Health Promotion Center at Glens Falls Hospital is pleased to announce the efforts of the hospital’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities Grant (CHSC), Adirondack Cycling Advocates, Bike Glens Falls, Glens Falls City Councilman Sean Palladino and Glens Falls Department of Public of Works in the approval and implementation of public bike parking to be located in downtown Glens Falls. The new bike parking with be unveiled on May 16th at 11:00 located near the crosswalk located at SPoT Coffee and Charles R. Wood Theater on Glen St. and is part of a larger effort in the city of Glens Falls by CHSC to provide more bike parking and connect everyday destinations. The unveiling will be followed by Crandall Library’s Let’s Ride Glens Falls! Local Bike Trails, Rules, & Children's Safety Course in City Park from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The new bike rack, which was purchased by CHSC, will increase parking option for cyclists by accommodating 6 bikes and provided a location central to the restaurants and businesses on Glen St and surrounding downtown area. Councilman Sean Palladino, an advocate for more accessible biking in Glens Falls, Barbara Joudrey of Adirondack Cycling Advocates, and Ben Okkema of Bike Glens Falls ensured the approval by the City of Glens Falls government including the Board of Public Safety, Quality of Life Committee, and Common Council. Tom Girard, Glens Falls Superintendent of Public Works and his employees will be installing the bike rack.

Creating Health Schools and Communities (CHSC), is a New York State Department of Health grant secured by Glens Falls Hospital. The CHSC initiative strives to increase physical activity and access to healthy foods in our communities and schools, whether this be through school districts, early childcare centers, worksites, or community settings.
The Health Promotion Center of Glens Falls Hospital works to improve the health and well-being of the people and communities in our region. Present work focuses on strategies to make it easier for people to eat well, be tobacco-free, be physically active, and obtain preventative care. This work is currently supported through numerous grant-funded initiatives housed within the Health Promotion Center, including: Creating Healthy Schools and Communities and Health Systems for a Tobacco-Free NY, programs.
