Glens Falls Riverkeeper Sweep on May 2nd

Join Glens Falls Councilman Sean Palladino and the Feeder Canal Alliance for the 15th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep on Pruyn's Island from 8-9am on Saturday, May 2nd. The event will also be partnering with New York Parks and Trail's I Love NY Parks Day, ensuring that our public lands stay vibrant and our waterways remain clean and healthy.

Rain or shine, we will meet at 1 Pruyn's Island Drive, Glens Falls, NY at the beginning of the Pruyn's Path Trail by the dual-swinging benches. Parking is available at the Murray Street parking lot and the Murray Street kayak access parking lot.

We recommend all volunteers bring a hat, sunscreen, a full reusable water bottle, insect repellent, work gloves, and hand sanitizer.

Across the Hudson River in South Glens Falls, Common Roots Brewing Company is sponsoring a Riverkeeper Sweep along the Betar Byway Trail starting at 11am. Spend the first Saturday of May helping cleanup our communities!

Over the last fourteen years of the Riverkeeper Sweep, they have completed 1,463 service projects, bringing together thousands of volunteers across New York City and Hudson Valley to clean up 396 tons of debris, and plant or maintain 11,240 native plants.

What time should I get there and where do I park?

What should I wear/bring?
We recommend bringing a hat, a water bottle, work gloves, and hand sanitizer. Volunteers should wear clothes that can get dirty with closed-toed shoes. You might also consider bringing sunscreen, bug spray or tick repellent.

Is this a rain or shine event?
Yes! We will be there regardless of the weather. When in doubt, dress in layers.

Do I need to bring cleanup supplies?
We recommend all volunteers to bring a hat, sunscreen, a full reusable water bottle, insect repellent, work gloves and hand sanitizer. We will provide trash bags, gloves.

Will there be refreshments served?
We will provide coffee, bananas, and donuts for volunteers.

Is this a child-friendly event?
Yes! Children are welcome to participate in the sweep but must be supervised at all times.

Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Be aware that the Pruyn's Path and Feeder Canal Trail have regulations that require all pets are leashed.

I fully understand and realize that this is a physical and outdoor activity, and that by participating in this cleanup event, I subject myself to the risk of injury, including both minor injuries, serious injuries, and death. I hereby knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation in this clean up event.

I hereby waive, release and discharge for myself (and my heirs, executors, administrators, legal representatives, assignees and successors in interest— hereafter referred to collectively as my “successors”) any and all claims, rights, and causes of action which I have, or which may hereafter accrue to me, against the City of Glens Falls (and its officers, City Council members, directors, guests, employees, agents, and any other entity acting for or on its behalf— hereafter referred to collectively as its “affiliated persons”) that relate to or arise from any injury or damages that I may sustain directly or indirectly related to or arising out of my participation in this clean-up event. I expressly understand and agree that I am hereby waiving and releasing all claims against the City of Glens Falls and its affiliated persons, including, but not limited to, claims based on the City of Glens Falls negligence or the negligence of any affiliated person.

In the event of any aforementioned injury or loss, I agree to waive any claim against the City of Glens Falls and any affiliated persons. I further agree to fully INDEMNIFY, DEFEND, AND HOLD the City of Glens Falls and any affiliated persons free and harmless from and against any claim, cause of action, liability, judgment, cost and expense, including, but not limited to, attorney fees.

I agree that it is my sole responsibility to take proper steps to reduce the risk of injury to myself and others while participating in this clean-up event, including wearing protective equipment, observing appropriate standards of conduct, following all instructions of affiliated persons, and otherwise acting in a reasonable, appropriate and prudent manner.
