Pottermore is Almost Here

Though originally supposed to unveil last October, Pottermore is the interactive website created by J. K. Rowling and a half-dozen other companies. The website allows Harry Potter fans to relive the timeless stories again, with games, added information from Rowling herself, and more.

As one of the million fans that got into the beta version last August, I have enjoyed by access to the website thus far. Once a user logs on, they will first create their profile, which includes a pre-selected username, password, birthday, and country. Then, the user is taken to the home screen, with only a few working links.

As a user goes through the story, chapter by chapter, more links on the home screen will be unlocked. For instance, Diagon Alley is unlocked when you read up to the Diagon Alley chapter in Philosopher's Stone, the first story in the Harry Potter series.

The interface is beautiful. Below is a screenshot of the main screen where a user will start or continue the story, access games, and more.

The good news is that Pottermore is slated to open at the end of this month to the world. The interesting thing about this development is the unveiling the first eBook for the first book of the Harry Potter series. It will work with Amazon's Kindle and most other eReaders.

Now, eBooks of the Harry Potter series have been available for over five years. But these were unofficial editions made by the fans for the fans. They function well, but legally, these eBooks are illegal.

Soon though, the world of eBook fans (and Harry Potter fans) will be able to buy an official ebook of the Harry Potter books and experience Pottermore for themselves.

I'll believe it is here when it is actually here. They've been promising forever

It should open real soon, though.

Wow, if they are truly that close to releasing Pottermore I am very pleased to hear it. I'm curious where you got that information -- I've been searching for an updated release and this is the first I've seen since they delayed it indefinitely. Thanks for letting us know!

Sorry to disappoint, but it's all speculation. I remember them claiming that it will open in the first quarter of 2012. I may, sadly, be wrong. :(
